About Megève & the Mont-Blanc villages
Megève was a farming village with a market square and an onion-domed bell tower until the 1920s, when Baroness Noémie de Rothschild went looking for a French answer to St Moritz and settled on it. That history is why it photographs unlike a purpose-built ski station: the centre is still a village of narrow lanes, painted shutters and a cobbled square in front of the church, largely closed to traffic, with horse-drawn carriages in summer and sleighs on the packed snow in winter. The mountains do the rest. Rochebrune, reached by a cable car that has been running since 1933, puts you on open slopes looking straight across at the Mont Blanc massif; because the massif stands east of the village it takes the last warm light of the day while the valley is already in shadow, and that is the frame worth planning an evening around. Two neighbours finish the location. Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce sits on a balcony above the Val Montjoie with a painted baroque church and the glaciers directly opposite. Combloux, ten minutes north, has its own onion dome and a natural swimming lake that mirrors Mont Blanc on a still summer morning. Seasons matter more than hours here: snow is dependable from late December through March, the pastures are green and flowering from late June, and the shoulder weeks of May and November close most lifts and much of the village — check what is open before fixing a date.

Top Photo Spots in Megève
The most photogenic locations for your Megève & the Mont-Blanc villages photoshoot
The village square and Rue Charles-Feige
A cobbled square under an onion-domed bell tower, with horse-drawn carriages in summer and sleighs on the packed snow in winter.
Best time: Mid-morning or late afternoon; the square shades early in winter
Carriages and sleighs are private businesses booked with the drivers on the square, and they sell out on fine afternoons — arrange ahead if one is part of the plan.
The Rochebrune slopes
Open slopes above the village, reached by a cable car running since 1933, looking straight across the valley at the Mont Blanc massif.
Best time: The last twenty minutes of sun on the massif, from the slopes
Lift dates, hours and pedestrian tickets are set by the operator and change with the season — check them for the day. Snow reflects hard light upward, so watch for squinting.
Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce
A hamlet on a balcony above the Val Montjoie, with a painted baroque church and the glaciers of the Mont Blanc massif directly opposite.
Best time: Late afternoon, when the massif opposite takes the warm light
Twenty minutes from Megève on a narrow mountain road, so budget the drive both ways. The church is a working parish with its own hours — check before planning interiors.
Combloux and its lake
A neighbouring village with its own onion dome and a natural swimming lake that holds the reflection of Mont Blanc on a still morning.
Best time: Early morning for the reflection, late afternoon for the church
The swimming lake has a season, opening hours and a summer entry fee set by the village, so check before building a session around it. Ten minutes by road from Megève.
Frequently asked questions
How long is a typical couples photoshoot in France?
Most couples sessions last 60 to 90 minutes, enough time to visit 2-3 locations and capture a wide variety of natural, relaxed moments together. In Paris you might start at the Trocadéro with the Eiffel Tower behind you, cross the Pont de Bir-Hakeim and finish in the quiet lanes of Montmartre; on the Riviera your photographer will route you through Èze's stone passages before the tour groups arrive. Longer 2-hour sessions are perfect if you want to explore more. Book with Photo France and we'll match you with the ideal photographer for your style.
What should we wear for a couples photoshoot?
The golden rule is to coordinate without matching — complementary colors and classic styles that reflect your personality. Solid, muted tones (cream, navy, sage, terracotta) photograph beautifully against Paris' limestone façades, Provence's ochre villages and the Riviera's blue. Avoid busy patterns, large logos and neon colors. Comfortable shoes matter: Montmartre's cobbles are steep, Èze is all stairs, and lavender fields are dusty. Bring a second outfit for variety on longer sessions, and a light layer for breezy evenings on the coast or by the lakes. Your Photo France photographer will send a personalized style guide for your location, season and time of day.
When is the best time of day for a couples photoshoot?
Golden hour — shortly after sunrise or before sunset — gives the most flattering, warm, romantic light. In France, sunset ranges from around 5pm in winter to almost 10pm in summer, so plan accordingly. Sunset sessions on the Seine or above the Mediterranean at Èze are legendary, but they're also the busiest hours; sunrise shoots give you the Trocadéro, the Louvre courtyard or Annecy's old town nearly to yourselves. Midday works too in shaded old-town lanes, but the strong southern summer sun needs an experienced photographer. Your Photo France photographer will recommend the ideal timing for your location and season.
How much does a photoshoot in Megève cost?
Professional photoshoots in Megève start from €310, with packages set by duration and the number of edited photos. An hour is enough for the village square, the lanes and the river footbridges; two hours let you take a lift up to the slopes facing Mont Blanc, or drive to Combloux or Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce. Most couples and families here book one to two hours.
What are the best photo spots in Megève?
The cobbled square in front of the church, with its onion-domed tower and the carriages and sleighs waiting on it. Rue Charles-Feige for painted shutters and shopfronts. The Rochebrune slopes, reached by cable car, for the whole Mont Blanc massif across the valley. And two villages nearby: Saint-Nicolas-de-Véroce with its baroque church, and Combloux with its lake facing the mountain.
What is the best time of day and season for photos in Megève?
Mont Blanc stands east of the village, so the massif holds the last warm light of the day long after the valley has gone into shade: that half hour is worth planning an evening around. Snow is dependable from late December to March, the pastures are green and flowering from late June, and May and November close most lifts and much of the village.
