Get directionsMegève kept its village when it became a resort, and this square is the proof: the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste with its onion-domed tower on one side, painted façades and wooden balconies on the others, and horses waiting under the arcade for the next carriage or sleigh.
Rue Charles-Feige runs off it, the main street of the old centre, closed to most traffic and lined with shopfronts, flowers in summer and lights in winter. The two together give an entire session without leaving the flat: doorways, arcades, the fountain, the horses, and the mountains showing at the end of every gap between buildings.
Mid-morning and late afternoon are best; the square is enclosed and can go into shade early on a winter day. In high season it is busy from ten onwards, and the sleighs and carriages are booked directly with the drivers on the square, so a session that includes one needs arranging in advance.
