Nice, Annecy and Aix-en-Provence are small markets: three photographers in each, and the hour costs €460 in all three. What moves the price
The city, and how much choice it has. Where ten photographers list packages, as in Paris, the typical hour is €400; where three do, it is €460, with less to compare. Book someone who already lists the place you will be in: bringing a photographer in from elsewhere is a custom proposal.
Edited photos, more than minutes. An hour in France costs anything from €345 to €575, and most of that spread is the size of the gallery and the editing behind it. Check the photo count before the price.
The occasion. Couples, families and proposals book by the hour; a proposal rarely needs more than one, with the photographer out of sight until the question. Weddings and elopements are day work: the single half-day package costs €990 for about 80 photos, and nine full days run from €1,945 to €3,210, typically €2,415 for about 500 photos.
Season and sunrise. A package costs the same in February as in July, at dawn as at dusk. The season changes availability instead: spring and September weekends go first in Paris, and in July and August the Promenade des Anglais and the canals of Annecy are crowded by mid-morning. Sunrise is the calm hour everywhere; in June it comes before six in Paris. On the Valensole plateau, about an hour's drive from Aix, the lavender flowers from about mid-June into July.
Travel out of town. Versailles is about 20 km from central Paris, Saint-Émilion under an hour from Bordeaux, Villefranche-sur-Mer a short train ride from Nice, Talloires about 20 minutes by car from Annecy. Two places in one gallery usually mean a longer booking or a custom proposal. Entry tickets are not included: the Versailles gardens are ticketed on fountain-show days, for the photographer too.
