Saint-Raphaël seafront and the basilica
Palms, Belle Époque villas and the domed basilica of Notre-Dame-de-la-Victoire beside the old port.
About Saint-Raphaël seafront and the basilica
Get directionsSaint-Raphaël grew up as a resort in the late nineteenth century, and its seafront still shows it: a promenade of palms between the old port and the beaches, villas with loggias and wrought-iron balconies, and, a street back from the water, the Basilique Notre-Dame-de-la-Victoire — a neo-Byzantine church of domes and arches in pale stone, built in the 1880s.
It is the easy, urban start to an Estérel session: flat walking, cafés, the masts of the old port, and warm stone that photographs well in evening light. Couples often begin here and drive out along the Corniche d'Or for the red rocks, or finish here after the coast, as the promenade lights come on.

Tips
The basilica is a working church — facade and steps from the street. In summer the old-port side is calmer than the beach promenade.
