The widest view on the Corniche d'Or — red pinnacles, clear coves and the open sea from a lookout on the coast road.

About Pointe de l'Observatoire under Cap Roux

Get directions

Past Anthéor the Corniche d'Or climbs, and before Le Trayas it reaches the Pointe de l'Observatoire, a lookout on a bend of the coast road under the bare red flanks of Cap Roux. From the wall you look straight down on red pinnacles and coves of clear water, and along the coast the cliffs step away towards the Gulf of La Napoule and Cannes.

It is a big-landscape spot rather than an intimate one: wide frames with the couple small against the red rock, or tight portraits with the sea a blur of turquoise behind. A small parking area serves it, and the road is narrow and busy in summer, so the photographer pulls in, shoots and moves on rather than staging a long session at the roadside.

Best time to shoot

Early morning or late afternoon; midday flattens the red

Tips

The parking holds only a few cars — arrive early in summer. Stay behind the wall: the drop to the coves is sheer.
