In Paris you might start at the Trocadéro with the Eiffel Tower behind you, cross the Pont de Bir-Hakeim and finish in the quiet lanes of Montmartre; on the Riviera your photographer will route you through Èze's stone passages before the tour groups arrive. The golden rule is to coordinate without matching — complementary colors and classic styles that reflect your personality. Solid, muted tones (cream, navy, sage, terracotta) photograph beautifully against Paris' limestone façades, Provence's ochre villages and the Riviera's blue. Avoid busy patterns, large logos and neon colors. Comfortable shoes matter: Montmartre's cobbles are steep, Èze is all stairs, and lavender fields are dusty. Bring a second outfit for variety on longer sessions, and a light layer for breezy evenings on the coast or by the lakes. Golden hour — shortly after sunrise or before sunset — gives the most flattering, warm, romantic light. In France, sunset ranges from around 5pm in winter to almost 10pm in summer, so plan accordingly. Sunset sessions on the Seine or above the Mediterranean at Èze are legendary, but they're also the busiest hours; sunrise shoots give you the Trocadéro, the Louvre courtyard or Annecy's old town nearly to yourselves. Midday works too in shaded old-town lanes, but the strong southern summer sun needs an experienced photographer. Professional photoshoots in Gordes start from €310, and most one- to two-hour packages fall between about €310 and €450 depending on length and the number of edited photos. That covers a golden hour at the panoramic lay-by as well as a longer route through the village calades and down to the Abbaye de Sénanque. Edited photos usually arrive within about a week.

Four places do most of the work: the panoramic lay-by on the road in from Cavaillon, where the whole village stacks up its cliff in one frame; the calades, the steep cobbled lanes inside; the castle square and its fountains; and the Abbaye de Sénanque, five minutes down a narrow valley road, with its lavender rows in front of the Romanesque church.

The lay-by faces roughly west, so morning light comes from behind the village — come in the last two hours before sunset instead, when the sun rakes the dry-stone facades amber. The lanes inside are best before ten, before the coaches arrive and parking turns into a contact sport. The Sénanque lavender flowers roughly from late June to mid-July, and it is cut soon after.
