The golden rule is to coordinate without matching — complementary colors and classic styles that reflect your personality. Solid, muted tones (cream, navy, sage, terracotta) photograph beautifully against Paris' limestone façades, Provence's ochre villages and the Riviera's blue. Avoid busy patterns, large logos and neon colors. Comfortable shoes matter: Montmartre's cobbles are steep, Èze is all stairs, and lavender fields are dusty. Bring a second outfit for variety on longer sessions, and a light layer for breezy evenings on the coast or by the lakes. Golden hour — shortly after sunrise or before sunset — gives the most flattering, warm, romantic light. In France, sunset ranges from around 5pm in winter to almost 10pm in summer, so plan accordingly. Sunset sessions on the Seine or above the Mediterranean at Èze are legendary, but they're also the busiest hours; sunrise shoots give you the Trocadéro, the Louvre courtyard or Annecy's old town nearly to yourselves. Midday works too in shaded old-town lanes, but the strong southern summer sun needs an experienced photographer. The Jardin Exotique at the top of the village, where cacti and sculptures stand over a sheer drop to the sea, the stone arches and flowered doorways of the medieval lanes, the ramparts with the coastline curving below, and the church square with its ochre bell tower. The whole village is car-free, so every corner works.

Early morning, before the day-trip buses arrive from Nice and Monaco — the lanes are empty and the low light rakes beautifully across the stone. Late afternoon is the other window: the crowds thin out again and the sea below turns from turquoise to gold as the sun drops toward Cap Ferrat.
