The proposal itself is captured from a distance with a long lens, then the photographer reveals themselves and continues with a celebratory mini-session: the ring, the happy tears, the toast. No — discretion is the whole craft. French landmarks work in your favour here: at the Trocadéro, on the Seine bridges or in Èze's garden, everyone is holding a camera, so one more photographer attracts zero attention. Your photographer will scout the spot beforehand, position themselves naturally, and never make eye contact with you until the ring is out. It depends where you are. The Côte d'Azur enjoys around 300 sunny days a year, so an Èze or Antibes proposal has excellent odds; Paris and Normandy are less predictable, which is why every proposal plan comes with a backup: an alternative sheltered location (the arcades of the Palais-Royal, a covered passage, a museum courtyard), a flexible time window on the same day, or a free reschedule to the next day if conditions are truly impossible. Overcast light is actually soft and flattering for photos, and a light drizzle on the Seine quays has produced some very cinematic proposals — so a grey sky alone is no reason to panic. The cliff path east of Bonifacio, which puts the whole haute ville on its undercut limestone shelf in one frame, and the Escalier du Roi d'Aragon below it; the Calvi citadel above its bay and pine forest; Palombaggia and Santa Giulia near Porto-Vecchio for umbrella pines over pale sand; and the red porphyry of the Calanche de Piana at sunset. The Scandola reserve is boat-only with landings forbidden, so it is photographed from the water.

It is one of the best in France for both, because the island trades crowds for distance. A dawn proposal on the Bonifacio cliff path is private in a way the Riviera never is, and elopements work beautifully on the Calvi bay or a Porto-Vecchio beach at first light. Two practical points: getting anywhere on the island is slow rather than far, so give the day margin; and the wind can rewrite a coastal plan without warning, which is why a photographer here always carries an inland alternative.
