On the day, the photographer arrives early and blends in — photographing the view like any tourist — while actually tracking you. The proposal itself is captured from a distance with a long lens, then the photographer reveals themselves and continues with a celebratory mini-session: the ring, the happy tears, the toast. Within days you receive a gallery that starts seconds before the question and ends with the two of you glowing. No — discretion is the whole craft. French landmarks work in your favour here: at the Trocadéro, on the Seine bridges or in Èze's garden, everyone is holding a camera, so one more photographer attracts zero attention. Your photographer will scout the spot beforehand, position themselves naturally, and never make eye contact with you until the ring is out. In hundreds of proposals arranged through our markets, partners almost never suspect a thing before the reveal — and the genuine shock on their face in the photos is exactly why this works so well. If you're especially worried, choose a busier spot or a photographer working with a longer lens; we'll advise on both.

It depends where you are. The Côte d'Azur enjoys around 300 sunny days a year, so an Èze or Antibes proposal has excellent odds; Paris and Normandy are less predictable, which is why every proposal plan comes with a backup: an alternative sheltered location (the arcades of the Palais-Royal, a covered passage, a museum courtyard), a flexible time window on the same day, or a free reschedule to the next day if conditions are truly impossible. Overcast light is actually soft and flattering for photos, and a light drizzle on the Seine quays has produced some very cinematic proposals — so a grey sky alone is no reason to panic. Your photographer will talk you through the options the day before, and the decision always stays yours.

Professional photoshoots on the Valensole plateau start from €310. Packages vary by duration and the number of edited photos — from a sunrise hour in the lavender rows to a longer morning that adds Moustiers-Sainte-Marie and the turquoise water of the Verdon.

The rows colour up in the last days of June, peak through roughly the first ten days of July, and harvesting follows soon after — by the third week of July many fields are already cut. That is a window of about three weeks, and it moves a little every year with the spring weather. Book the window rather than the month, and ask your photographer what is standing that week: local photographers check the fields, not the calendar, and will route you to the blocks still in flower.

No — the plateau is working farmland, and every field belongs to a grower whose crop pays for the year. Stay on the tracks and the field edges, where the best frames are anyway: a stone hut in the middle of the rows, an almond tree on a rise, a path running to the horizon between two blocks of purple. Bees work the plants from mid-morning, which is one more reason the session belongs at sunrise, when the plateau is empty and cool.
