Most couples sessions last 60 to 90 minutes, enough time to visit 2-3 locations and capture a wide variety of natural, relaxed moments together. In Paris you might start at the Trocadéro with the Eiffel Tower behind you, cross the Pont de Bir-Hakeim and finish in the quiet lanes of Montmartre; on the Riviera your photographer will route you through Èze's stone passages before the tour groups arrive. The golden rule is to coordinate without matching — complementary colors and classic styles that reflect your personality. Solid, muted tones (cream, navy, sage, terracotta) photograph beautifully against Paris' limestone façades, Provence's ochre villages and the Riviera's blue. Avoid busy patterns, large logos and neon colors. Comfortable shoes matter: Montmartre's cobbles are steep, Èze is all stairs, and lavender fields are dusty. Bring a second outfit for variety on longer sessions, and a light layer for breezy evenings on the coast or by the lakes. Golden hour — shortly after sunrise or before sunset — gives the most flattering, warm, romantic light. In France, sunset ranges from around 5pm in winter to almost 10pm in summer, so plan accordingly. Sunset sessions on the Seine or above the Mediterranean at Èze are legendary, but they're also the busiest hours; sunrise shoots give you the Trocadéro, the Louvre courtyard or Annecy's old town nearly to yourselves. Midday works too in shaded old-town lanes, but the strong southern summer sun needs an experienced photographer. Professional photoshoots on Île de Ré and in La Rochelle start from €310. Packages vary by duration and the number of edited photos — from an hour in the whitewashed lanes of Saint-Martin to a longer session that adds the salt marshes at dusk or the towers of the La Rochelle old port.

Saint-Martin-de-Ré's harbour inside Vauban's star-shaped fortifications, and the bell tower above it for roofs and water; the whitewashed lanes with green shutters and hollyhocks along the walls; Ars-en-Ré's black-and-white steeple, painted that way as a seamark; the salt marshes at dusk; and the Phare des Baleines at the western tip. In La Rochelle: the harbour mouth guarded by the Tour Saint-Nicolas and the Tour de la Chaîne, with the Tour de la Lanterne behind and arcaded streets that work in rain.

May, June and September. The island is at its emptiest and most photogenic outside July and August, the hollyhocks along the walls flower through June and into July, and the light is famously clean because nothing on the island is tall enough to block it. Sunrise and the hour before sunset are the working slots: the harbour is still, the lanes are empty, and at dusk the salt marshes turn into sheets of tinted mirror.
