Early morning, before the pistes fill: the snow is clean and the east-facing slopes take first light. Late afternoon turns the western skyline pink for about twenty minutes. Winter runs from late December to early April; summer is green, quiet and underused, with a handful of lifts open. May and November are the closed weeks — lifts, hotels and most restaurants shut.

Yes for anything above the village. The Saulire cable car and the other lifts sell pedestrian tickets, and each operator sets its own opening dates, running hours and rules, so check them for your day. Dress for the top, not the resort: at 2,700 metres it can be fifteen degrees colder and much windier, and a lift can shut at short notice in high wind or poor visibility.
