Passerelle Saint-Georges and the Saône quays

The Passerelle Saint-Georges crosses the Saône just downstream of the old town, and it is the frame that puts the two halves of Lyon in one picture: the river, the row of pastel facades along the Quai Fulchiron, and the wooded hill with the basilica on top. The bridge itself is narrow and quiet compared with the road bridges either side, which makes it usable for portraits — the cables and the deck give strong leading lines without stealing the background.

Work both banks. From the right bank the bridge becomes the subject, a thin line across the water toward the hill; from the left bank you shoot back at the old town with the towers of Saint-Jean above the roofline. Early morning gives still water and the reflection; the hour before sunset lights the facades directly and turns the water gold.

Two practical notes: the quays flood in late winter and early spring, and when the Saône is high the lower walkways are simply closed — check before planning a riverside session in February or March. And this is a working commuter route, so the bridge is busiest between eight and nine and again around six.
