If you're travelling to France specifically for a babymoon, plan the shoot for the trip's first days in case you want a relaxed repeat or the weather shifts. Seasonally, France is kind to maternity shoots almost year-round: April-June and September-October offer warm light without the August heat in the south, and even winter gives soft, flattering days in Paris. For summer sessions your photographer will book early morning or the last hour of light, keep shade close, and choose locations with minimal walking.

Long, flowing dresses are the maternity classic for a reason — they move in the breeze off the Seine or the Mediterranean, flatter the bump, and glow against France's pale stone and lavender fields. Solid colors work best: cream, terracotta, dusty blue, deep red for a Paris statement. Fitted knits photograph beautifully too if that's more your style. Bring two options — one flowing, one fitted — and comfortable flat shoes; heels and Montmartre cobbles do not mix. Many photographers keep a small collection of client dresses in maternity-friendly cuts, or can point you to local rental options, so ask when booking. Above all: choose what you feel gorgeous in. The confidence photographs more than the dress does.

Please bring them — the best maternity galleries are family stories, not solo portraits. A typical session flows through combinations naturally: portraits of you and the bump, tender frames with your partner, siblings kissing or talking to the belly (reliably the gallery's most-loved image), and a few minutes reserved for you alone in the best light. Photographers experienced with toddlers time the family frames early, while patience is fresh, and let small kids play at the edge of the scene between their moments — a Paris park or the Annecy lakeshore gives them plenty to do.
