The town faces east, so morning light lands on the bell tower and the coloured houses and the beach is empty before nine. Evening lights the hills behind instead, which suits the vineyard terraces and the windmill viewpoint. May, June, September and early October are the good months; July and August are crowded and parking becomes a problem.

In summer, yes. The old town is closed to through traffic and the car parks above it fill early on July and August days, which is one more reason to shoot in the morning or out of season. A park-and-ride shuttle runs in the busiest weeks. Parking zones, charges and shuttle hours change from year to year — check them before you set out.
