After you book, you and your photographer plan the details privately over chat: the exact spot, the time, what you'll both be wearing, and a subtle signal for the moment you're about to kneel. On the day, the photographer arrives early and blends in — photographing the view like any tourist — while actually tracking you. The proposal itself is captured from a distance with a long lens, then the photographer reveals themselves and continues with a celebratory mini-session: the ring, the happy tears, the toast. Within days you receive a gallery that starts seconds before the question and ends with the two of you glowing. No — discretion is the whole craft. French landmarks work in your favour here: at the Trocadéro, on the Seine bridges or in Èze's garden, everyone is holding a camera, so one more photographer attracts zero attention. Your photographer will scout the spot beforehand, position themselves naturally, and never make eye contact with you until the ring is out. In hundreds of proposals arranged through our markets, partners almost never suspect a thing before the reveal — and the genuine shock on their face in the photos is exactly why this works so well. If you're especially worried, choose a busier spot or a photographer working with a longer lens; we'll advise on both.

It depends where you are. The Côte d'Azur enjoys around 300 sunny days a year, so an Èze or Antibes proposal has excellent odds; Paris and Normandy are less predictable, which is why every proposal plan comes with a backup: an alternative sheltered location (the arcades of the Palais-Royal, a covered passage, a museum courtyard), a flexible time window on the same day, or a free reschedule to the next day if conditions are truly impossible. Overcast light is actually soft and flattering for photos, and a light drizzle on the Seine quays has produced some very cinematic proposals — so a grey sky alone is no reason to panic. Your photographer will talk you through the options the day before, and the decision always stays yours.

Professional photoshoots at Château de Chenonceau start from €310. Packages vary by duration and the number of edited photos — from an hour in the gardens and along the Cher to a longer morning that adds Chaumont-sur-Loire or the river banks at dusk.

Plan the session for the outside. As at Versailles, professional and commercial photography in the rooms is not something to promise a client without written permission from the estate, and the interiors are busy with visitors from opening. The good news is that Chenonceau's exterior is the picture everyone actually wants: the gallery on its five arches over the Cher, the two formal gardens, the tree-lined approach, the farm and the maze. Everything else follows from there.

Opening time. The gates open early in summer and later in winter, and for the first half hour the plane-tree avenue from the car park is empty and the Cher is usually still enough for a clean reflection — the frame from the west bank downstream, with the gallery repeated upside down in the water, is the one everyone comes for. Mid-morning to mid-afternoon belongs to the coaches. The gardens hold up in flat overcast light too, so a grey Loire day is not a lost day.
